Crown Oaks Day 2026: Results, Final Field and Flemington Race Schedule

Crown Oaks Day 2026: Results, Final Field and Flemington Race Schedule

Proxima Dea won the 2026 Crown Oaks at Flemington on Thursday, 5 November, extending her unbeaten record to six starts and completing a Group 1 double in the space of 12 days.

The David Payne-trained filly, ridden by Zac Lloyd, claimed the $1 million Group 1 race over 2500 metres by 1¾ lengths from Shameful Impulse, with De Armas finishing third.

The result followed her victory in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on 24 October, making her the first horse to complete that particular Group 1 double.

Crown Oaks Day featured nine races at Flemington, including the Group 3 Red Roses Stakes and several other stakes and handicap events.

The result gave Zac Lloyd his first Group 1 victory in Melbourne and added another major staying race to David Payne’s training record.

Proxima Dea Completes an Unbeaten Six-Race Campaign

Proxima Dea made her racing debut at Randwick on 11 July 2026, winning a 1400-metre two-year-old handicap.

She followed that victory with further success as her preparation progressed through longer distances.

Her campaign included the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes over 1800 metres and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000 metres.

The Spring Champion Stakes victory came against male opposition at Randwick on 24 October.

Twelve days later, she stepped up to 2500 metres for the Crown Oaks at Flemington and added a second Group 1 win.

The result completed six victories from six career starts, all achieved during her first racing preparation.

Payne indicated after the Oaks that the filly would now have a spell. He also mentioned the possibility of a future Melbourne Cup campaign, although no such assignment has been confirmed.

The Pedigree Behind Proxima Dea’s Crown Oaks Victory

Proxima Dea is by Tarzino out of Invisible Coin, a daughter of Redoute’s Choice.

Her pedigree has a direct connection to another Australian Oaks winner. She is a full sister to Gypsy Goddess, who won the Group 1 Queensland Oaks in 2022.

Tarzino won the Victoria Derby over 2500 metres in 2015 and later developed a stallion career at Westbury Stud in New Zealand.

His Group 1 progeny include Gypsy Goddess, Jungle Magnate and Willydoit, all successful in major races over middle-distance or staying trips.

Proxima Dea’s Crown Oaks victory adds another Group 1 staying achievement to the stallion’s record.

Breeding and ownership history

Proxima Dea was bred by a group of New Zealand interests associated with Transtasman Breeders.

The filly was offered through the 2025 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where Ciaron Maher Bloodstock purchased her for $300,000.

The original breeders subsequently retained an interest in her racing ownership after the initial syndication process did not proceed as expected.

Her dam, Invisible Coin, was later sold through Inglis Digital for $200,000 in July 2025.

These transactions form part of the breeding history behind the 2026 Crown Oaks winner.

Crown Oaks 2026 Field and Scratchings
